What if you only worked ten hours a week?

Struggling to figure out the best use of your time?

One way to prioritize your time

Walk through this exercise to gain some clarity on your priorities:

What if you recently experienced a heart attack and had been told by your doctor that you could only work 2 hours a day, five days a week. You don’t get to work eight hours a day, or even five hours per day. You are allowed to work 2 hours per day, five days per week. What would you do with those five 2-hour blocks of time?  You must complete everything that is important in those ten hours.

Answering this question will help you determine what the most important uses of your time are. This simple exercise is a great way to think through your top 5 priorities, to consider who can help you, to process what would get dropped if you had no other choice.

One thing is for sure. You would become much more effective at delegating.

What would you do with your five, 2-hour blocks of time? Take a few minutes right now and write down your five time-blocks. Are there a couple of changes that you need to make in your work life as a result of this exercise. Please share your insights by commenting so we can all learn from you!
